Blue Card holders can now register sole proprietorship company (jednoosobowa działalność gospodarcza) in Poland

The Polish government has recently (1st June 2025) changed the list of foreigners that are eligible for registering companies in Poland.

Starting from 1st June 2025, non-EU citizens that stay in Poland based on a Blue Card (officially called “temporary residence permit for the purpose of performing work in a profession that requires high qualifications”) can now register any kind of company on the same terms as Polish citizens.

This includes sole proprietorship companies (jednoosobowa działalność gospodarcza or jdg) that are a popular choice for a small business and don’t require as much paperwork as other types of companies.

It is yet another benefit of legalizing your stay based on a Blue Card (you can read more about requirements and benefits of a blue card here).

This amendment was done as part of implementation of EU Directive 2021/1883 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October 2021 on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purpose of highly-qualified employment, that made it necessary for Poland to allow highly qualified non-EU citizens to register companies on the same terms as Polish citizens.
